As you lift the glass to your nose, the wine releases an aromatic symphony that transports you to the seaside. Briny sea breezes intertwine with delicate floral notes, reminiscent of coastal blossoms dancing in the salt-kissed air. The initial impression is one of freshness as if you are standing on the shore, inhaling the invigorating sea spray.

Upon the first sip, your palate is greeted by a wave of crispness. Its vibrant acidity is reminiscent of biting into a juicy, sun-kissed white peach. The floral and citrusy nuances add layers of complexity, evoking images of citrus groves overlooking the azure sea.

The influence of the sea's embrace becomes apparent in the mid-palate, where a subtle salinity emerges, enhancing the wine's texture and creating a tantalizing interplay with the fruitiness. It's as if the essence of the ocean has permeated the wine, leaving behind a whisper of maritime mystique.

In every sensory aspect, this wine offers a unique and enchanting experience, a testament to the profound influence of the marine environment on the development of exquisite flavors in the world of wine.

Our story

Gergő pouring ElixSea wine on a terrace by the sea

“The first sip after the sea gave it back to us split our lives in two a before, and an after."

The first time we tasted the wine after its maturation beneath the sea, everything changed. From that moment on, our whole life has revolved around a single obsession: to craft the best wine in the world, aged under the waves. Mariona, a marine biologist, and Gergő, raised in his family's Hungarian winery, poured every day into that pursuit. This is ElixSea, the elixir of the sea.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is underwater-aged wine?

It's wine that finishes its aging on the seabed instead of a traditional cellar. Submerged in complete darkness, under constant pressure, stable temperature and the endless motion of the currents, the wine evolves in a way no winery on land can reproduce.

How long do the bottles stay underwater?

Generally 6 to 12 months, but we have some longer aged wines too (1,5-2 years)

Does underwater aging really make a difference?

At our tastings, we serve the underwater-aged wine alongside its “terrestrial” control sample and let our guests decide. So far, everyone has been able to recognise a difference, and 99% have preferred the underwater-aged wine.

For the marine creatures, the difference we make means much more.

Is the wine safe to drink after being in the sea?

Absolutely. The wine never comes into contact with seawater. Each bottle remains completely sealed throughout the ageing process and undergoes careful inspection once it returns to the surface.

Why are the bottles covered in marine life?

During their months underwater, the bottles become part of the surrounding marine habitat. Barnacles, oysters and other organisms naturally settle on their surface, leaving each bottle with its own unique appearance.

No two bottles ever come back the same.

What wines do you use?

We tested different DO and DOCa wines extensively, to see how they respond to underwater ageing. Only the ones that thrive beneath the surface make it into our collection. Survival of the finest.
