The first thing you notice, bringing a cage up from the bottom, is the weight. Not the bottles. The bottles weigh what they always weighed. The extra kilos are everything that moved in while the wine was resting.
Sponges, small corals, mussels and the odd octopus make the cages their home for the months the wine spends on the sea floor. We never planned a reef, but every season the sea builds one around the bottles.
